Company Expansion
Palm Sports Resources announced today the hiring of Annika Eliese Palm as a Special Assistant to the President. When asked what role Annika would have in the organization, President Jerry Palm said, “We plan to start her off slowly so she can learn the ropes. Since she’s only 20 1/4” long and 7 lbs, 13.5 oz, we’ll probably limit her activities to eating, sleeping and pooping initially. We will also put her in charge of ensuring that we have the proper amount of sleep deprivation in the Executive Suite.”
Palm added, “If she is able to do those things successfully, we will be expanding her responsibilities into other areas to be decided upon at a later date.”
The EEOC began an investigation into the company’s hiring practices last summer when rumors surfaced that the company had only hired males so far, but Palm was quick to point out that the investigation had nothing to do with Annika Palm’s appointment.
“Obviously, it’s no fun when the government shows up at your door and starts rifling through your drawers, muttering things like ‘Title IX’, ‘gender bias’ and ‘federal lawsuit’, but Annika isn’t the token female around here. She has impressive credentials and we’re committed to her for the long term. We expect big things from her. It probably won’t be too long before she’s running the place. Of course, if hiring her gets the feds off my back, so much the better.”
Palm wasn’t kidding when he talked about a long term commitment. While terms of the deal were not disclosed, a well placed source says Ms. Palm signed an 18-year, no-cut contract.
Mr. Palm also got a little defensive when pressed about the fact that this looks like a patronage hire. “Hey, this is Lake County, Indiana,” Palm said, adding, “Every job in this county is a patronage job. This isn’t like Chicago, where patronage hiring is illegal.”

Congratulations, Jerry!!!
Congrats Jerry - you're the MAN!
Annika - you go girl - and go, and go, and go.
My best to Cheri, Jerry, and all the Palms.

A girl to join me in the world of men's college hoops! Woo HOOOOOO!
Congrats to Jerry & family! :o)
Congratulations, Jerry!
And on that 18-year contract, I'd wager Annika has a long series of contract extensions in her future with the organization, if Mrs. Palm has anything to say about it.
She has a way to go before she joins you in the world of college hoops, Ceci. Tonight, I was holding her in my wife's room while I was watching the Purdue-Indiana game and do you know what she was doing? SLEEPING! I couldn't get her interested in the game at all! I'm beginning to wonder if she's really my kid.
Maybe she was more interested in seeing FSU knock off Duke rather than some boring big 10 game. Just kidding, congratulations on the new addition!
One more child and it does not matter if it is a boy or a girl and you would have a team that could beat The Citadel. Congrats!!!!
18 year no-cut? Sounds like an accounting scandal in the making....she'll have lots of behind the scenes perks....
Congrats to the whole family! Just think, by the time pre-season rolls around again, you MAY be into a normal sleep pattern again! :D
congrats!
With a name like Annika, you better start shopping for junior sized golf clubs!
Congrats...
I can hear that goofy announcer at (then-half-century-old) Mackey already: "She's a 5-9 soph-uh-more from Schererville! Her number is 24! Her name is Annika Palm!"
If she has that fabled Palm athletic ability, she's more likely to be the announcer than the announcee
Congrats, Jerry and fam!
Love the name, too. She's destined for a low golf handicap...at least. :-)

When it comes to golf, her handicap is genetics. I'm so bad at golf, that I've given up any hope of ever shooting my age and would like someday to shoot my IQ.
Congrats Jerry!!!
Way to go!
Please turn over the bracket projection to your new associate as soon as possible. I'm sure she would not give Virginia Tech a 7 seed!
Congrats on the new hire. If it turns out she's better at making club sandwiches than swinging a golf club, maybe she could try to emmulate some other Annika athletes like Annika Boyd, guard at Indiana; or Annika Biard, a 5'9 forward for tiny Ohlone College, a comm college in California; or Annika Knibbe, a defenseman on the Division III Gordon College (Mass.) soccer team; or Annika O'Dea, a sophomore on the Vassar cross country team. I'd take the Vassar route, having the brains too, as long as she's smart enough to figure out a way to pay the $40K tuition + fees per year. Ahh the combination of Googling and having way too much time - an interesting combination.
Time to start putting cash into her 529. Try to get her interested in lacrosse or crew and then she can spend the money on grad school

Congratulations, Jerry from the entire Carver Clan in Powder Springs, GA. That clan would include Grace (wife), Angela (17 yrs), Krista, (16 yrs), and Ally (15 yrs). As you can see....they grow up to be teenagers, Jerry! You'll be a pretty smart guy for the next 11 years! Enjoy it! It's the five after that you'll spend alot time of praying! She's beautiful! God bless all of you!

My very best to you and Cheri on your fourth child. A beautiful daughter. You're only one away from that co-ed basketball team !
Wonder if they will be able to find a coach ? Let's see, who knows something,... anything about the orange (C. Kellog) ?
Congratulations Jerry & Cheri !!!
From Experience, be careful, little girls know just how to wrap Dad around their little finger...
